DOUGLAS CULLEN
Of Vienna, VA on Sunday, September 3, 2017, quickly of cancer, Mr. Cullen was the beloved son of Ronald Cullen of Kent OH, and the late Beth Funk Cullen; brother of Ronna, Dana and Dan. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Cullen was the geosystems teacher and Rocketry Club Sponsor at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology in Alexandria, VA. A Remembrance Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology. Yes, it's true....Doug fell out of his raft on the first rapid on one of our Youghiogheny rafting trips. I can't remember if it was an official "Dave's Double Dare" or one of the Daveless Double Dare trips, but he was showboating a little as the raft captain and slipped off. Oh, the look on his face as he fell!
Doug was a joy to be around and I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his newer friends and acquaintances as much as those who have know him for much longer.
As consolation, we have our memories and knowledge that some day we'll be hiking, climbing, rafting, and caving where we won't get blisters and every sunrise and sunset will be better than the last.
