Served with him aboard the U.S.S. Towers (DDG-9) in 1962-1963. We were so young, but proud to serve. Glad he mad it all the way to Admiral.

Finest officer with whom I had the privilege to serve, and a true gentleman.

Ted was one driven sailor . . . always pushing on the boundaries.

The first time he engaged our company and set up a meeting in DC, he arranged for he and I to stay in the FLAG quarters at the Navy yard. As you all know, he took great pains to impress his targets.

At that time, I had only known Ted a couple of hours, from meetings discussing this new wireless comms technology.

I was in my room no more than 3 minutes when he barges in - I want to make a deal with you Robin, you teach me all I need to know about this wireless stuff and I will teach you everything there is to know about the Intelligence business.

I responded Sir, it seems like you are asking me to give you twenty-five cents in exchange for millions of dollars of value, it does not seem fair.

Ted replied, you owe me quarter.

Fifteen years later we leverage lessons learned from Ted about every day.

I am sorry to learn of Ted's passing. He was a great boss to work for when he was the J2 on the Joint Staff. In particular, I worked closely for him during Operation Just Cause, the US invasion of Panama in December 1989, and have many good memories of his leadership and the daily support we provided to then Chairman, JCS Colin Powell. After his retirement from active duty, Ted remained a friend and colleague, and he graciously hosted my husband and me for a visit to PA a few years back to view the 9/11 Flight 93 memorial. I wish his family only the best of memories of Ted as a military professional, husband, and dad. Rest in peace, friend.

Condolences to the Sheafer Family. I knew Ted well -- in a professional context -- and enjoyed every interaction. He had the passion, drive, intensity, and commitment that we need so badly in our services. I send my final salute.
