Polly Evans Obituary

POLLY KING EVANS
Polly King Evans, 53, died December 28, 2010 after a short illness. She was the devoted mother of Isabella Wagley and the late Louisa Caroline Wagley and wife of the late Huw Evans. Her enthusiasms, wit, creativity and zest for life will be missed but also cherished by her family and all her friends, not least her former colleagues at the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home and at Dumbarton Oaks. Polly's involvement in the Resident Art Program at the Lisner Home resulted in the Program taking on a new dimension with the creation of contemporary canvases, of which a documentary is in the works. At Dumbarton Oaks, she became a vital member of the Byzantine Department. Her many talents were most recently displayed at an exhibition of her artworks at the Arts Club on I Street. A gathering to celebrate her life is pending. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home, 5425 Western Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20015, attn: Ward Orem; www.lldhhome.org, in memory of Polly King Evans. Dear Isabella, Polly was so very kind and helpful to my dad when he lived at Sevier House and later at Georgetown Retirement . Such a fun person and so very lovely and generous. I have not seen her since '96 but I will always remember her. My heart goes out to you and all of Polly's family. Most sincerely, George Brock

Dear Isabella,
I was really happy to get acquainted with Polly during my residence in Dumbarton Oaks last summer. It is just impossible to forget her kindness, cordiality and remarkable sense of humour.
I still cannot believe that it is true...

Dear Isabella,
I will cherish the time I spent both working with your mom at the Lisner Home and getting to know her as a friend. She was truly a remarkable lady; she had such style and flair! I will always smile when I think of her. My deepest sympathies on your loss.

Dear Isabella, I was so fortunate to have worked with your mother in many capacities over these past 20+ years. I will always remember her wonderful and generous contributions to the Hurt Home residents and later the Lisner Home. Polly's incredible creativity, gentle kindness & most of all, her deep & unconditional love for you & your sister will always remain with me. I am so fortunate to have been able to call Polly, my friend. Love, Hele Hoenig

I had the pleasure of meeting Polly on one occasion and came away extremely impressed with her positive energy and her genuine, down to earth naturalness. I am saddened by her passing.

I worked with Polly at Dumbarton Oaks and am shocked and saddened. She was a wonderful and witty woman--she was a pleasure to be around.

I met Polly one time, during the Obama inauguration festivities. We went to several balls together, including the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home gala. She was energetic, funny, determined and really lovely in a dark rich cocoa brown silk gown. I'll never forget her. When I admired a scupture in a mutual friends home, I learned Polly was the artisit responsible for it. I never knew her, but I felt her presence, caught a glimpse of her world, and am very sad at her passing.
