My Dad ( Ryszard "Rick" Niemira greatly respected Velta. She was a trailblazer and a fascinating woman. I recall meeting her and seeing her at the PG Airport/Airpark.
Good memories... condolences to her family.

Velta was a very close aviation friend and mentor to our father, Rick Niemira. Both were flight instructors at PG Airpark decades ago with a passion for instructing others (civilians, FBI agents, other law enforcement personnel and those that just wanted to learn the art of flying small aircraft near the D.C. area) Our father greatly respected her, admiring the vast amount of aviation skill and prowess she possessed. He also considered her a close friend and mentor.
Our thoughts are with you,
Renee & Ricky Niemira

Please accept my condolences on Velta's passing. She was my examiner when I took my private pilot check ride in the early 1980s. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of mourning.

I am sadden to hear of Velta's passing. Although I never met her I consider her son Delmar to be one of my closest friends. We worked together at United and we often discussed his Mother's flying accomplishments whenever we had breakfast or coffee together. I know she will be missed by many family and aviation colleauges. Now she can fly with angels and watch over us mortals until that day we all fly together. God Bless !!

I first met Velta Benn when she was the examiner for my Instrument rating. I continued to take check rides with her and after I became a flight instructor, she was my primary examiner for my students.
Velta was a truly great American, with a great love for aviation. She was a joy to discuss the present and past.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
May God bless her soul.
