DEAR JANE,
IT WAS SUCH AN HONOR TO HAVE SERVED 79ER AS HIS DRIVER AND BODY GUARD IN VIET NAM1966 AND 67. HE SHAPED MY LIFE FROM THAT POINT ON. MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN HIS HANDS FOR TAKING SUCH GREAT CARE OF HIM..79ER KILO (RON HARTMANN)

Served with the General in Alaska as one of his Bn Cmdrs (ADA) above the range and later as his force developement/asst G1 at USARAL. Tough, fair and a real leader. I would have followed him anywhere. Robert H Clemmons, Jr Colonel ADA Retired.

One hi-lite of my Army career was serving as a crew chief on the General's helicopter when he commanded TRAC in Vietnam. Seeing the statue at A&M is how I remember him getting on the helicopter each morning. Though the war was winding down to most, some of the worst was yet to come in the Spring of 1972. Never forget that first day when he saw the 11th ACR patch on my right shoulder from a previous tour. Gave me a slap on it and said, "Blackhorse, eh!" He had the 1st Squadron OPCON to him back in the 66/67 timeframe. I read his biography and was in complete awe of the man and soldier. I saw him in uniform at Fort Hood in 1973. His ribbons seemed more a wall to wall carpet than the usual display. I was proud of him, of his many accomplishments, and the fact my helicopter was ready to go and got him back to Plantation unscathed every day I flew with him. A soldiers soldier and may he rest in peace with so many at Arlington. I'm sure he is telling a few stories up there. And thanks for the fried chicken you shared with me as we flew out to the war each day.

Mrs. Hollingsworth, I worked with Frank Muller at Coastal for years and had the pleasure of meeting with you and the great General numerous times. I cannot tell you how you both impacted my life and my daughter's life with your wonderful love for each other and your husband's greatness and integrity which he tried to pass on to each and every person with whom he came in contact. He will be sorely missed by the world, but I know you will be at the front of that line. Take care fine lady. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs. Hollingsworth,
The General will always remain in our hearts not only for his service to our country, but also for the service of promoting our nation's youth. Our son Trey would not be the man he is today without receiving the General's "nod" and for that we are eternally grateful. Our nation will likely never see another man as great as your husband. May the Peace of the Lord be with you and the General, always~>

Dear Aunt Janie
Uncle Jim will remain in my heart forever. Our family and country has lost a great hero and wonderful person. He has made an impression in our of our lives that will never fade away.

I never forget his great big Texas bear hugs and the pats on the back, or his expressive big blue eyes. Nor, will I forget his gift for story telling, how he know the time, place and date of every event. Not to mention the names of all of the people he worked with all over the world. He always was and will always be my "Palsey Walsey".

All My Love,
Julie
