I was a friend of Eva's niece, Lisa Newell. During Lisa's long illness, Eva was a rock of support, lovingkindness, and stability. What a great and trusted lady.

Eva Jacobs set an exceptionally high standard for intellectual integrity and professionalism in her career. She was a legend long before I came to work for her at the BLS (1978 through 1984). More of a "don" than an administrator, Eva made time to consider any "serious" idea, which would be met quickly with a question most critical. Most importantly, Eva understood that each of us serving under her had careers that would span far beyond the statistical cycles of our respective indices, and our own professional development was yet another topic wherein she was thinking ahead. Her guidance, support and understanding were much appreciated.
The tributes to her long and full life recall for me conversations of travel and the best of Washington life, and the photos of her quick eyes and smile recall my pride in the opportunity to have known and learned so much from her Godspeed!

Eva was the happiest, sharpest, most inspirational force of nature I have ever met and I am honored to have been counted among her many friends. I cherish every memory. And I will miss you terribly my friend. Thanks for everything.

Mrs Jacobs (as I called her) was a wonderful role model and a total joy to be around. We could always take home happy stories about her. I've wanted to be like her for a long time now, and I don't say that about a lot of people. Losing her has been a massive blow, despite not having been around her as much as my family. I thought she'd live forever- and in a way, she will. But I miss her already.
I'm just glad I got to meet her at all.

Eve and Leon were friends of my parents, and of mine. Abby and I were close childhood friends in the early sixty's and have remained friends. Mom's favorite Jacobs story was how Leon drove her to the hospital when she was in labor with me (Dad was out of town). Leon just flew, desperately hoping to be stopped so he could tell the police he had to get to the hospital. That's her story, maybe he was just scared she might have a baby in his car, ha!
It's sad to lose Eve. She was a special lady. They were both wonderful people. My sympathies to the family.

Eve Jacobs was an amazing woman whose wit and intellectual curiosity led her to live life to the fullest. Her kindness and concern for others made her a very active social being- too busy to age like others do!At 94 young she was a real lesson on how to live every day to the maximum and was a good friend of my parents and the family. Our deepest condolences to the family.

A long-time neighbor of Eva's I had no idea she was 94. She was always coming and going and doing and traveling and being helpful. One could easily subtract a dozen years off her age! She was warm and friendly and my cat and I will miss her. Everyone will miss her. My deepest condolences to her family. XX

I cannot really remember a time when I dod not know Eve Jacobs. She and Leon were friends of my parents. She was a tiny hurricane, a powerful female role model who was funny, spoke her mind, had a real joyfulness and loved her work and her family and friends. She influenced not only me but also my daughter Sofía, even though she only saw her intermittently growing up. She made a real difference to people's lives. What more could you ask for in life?

Eva was a blessing to us when she served as Chief, Division of Living Conditions Studies at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. She was smart, sharp, and no one at DLCS could ever match her intelligence! She was a petite lady with a commanding presence. May she rest in peace - she deserves it. I will not forget her or her kindness to me.

While I heard stories about Eva Jacobs at BLS, I never knew her while she was working here. However, a few years ago, I met Eva at a cocktail party hosted by American Councils for exchange young professionals from foreign countries and their hosts. I was hosting a college professor from Russia and she was hosting another young professional and had done so for several years. What a wonderful person --to take foreign professionals into your home and give them the opportunities to work in DC! She was truly a gem --a very kind and open person. I saw her a few times after this reception and I always thought that she truly lived a full life.

I feel so privileged to have known Eva, and grateful that she let me learn from her and be her friend. What an extraordinary woman.
