We were recently at the condos in Wrightsville Beach and that whole trip reminded me of a time when I was in high school, which would make this memory approx 50 years ago, and we were living a couple doors down the street from Gen Morris, and he asked me and my buddy Bill Pittman if we'd like to help him move some furniture into a new condo that he had just purchased. To the best of my recollection this had to be over in Ocean City (or maybe Rehoboth Beach)...Gen Morris rented a U-Haul and It was an overnighter --so we stayed one night, ate one of the Phillip's Crab Houses and in general had a grand time moving a truckload of stuff from Arlington to the beach condo. That 24 hours of "private time" with Gen Morris is one of my most treasured memories...

My deepest sympathies to the extended family of General Morris. When I moved to Wrightsville Beach, NC in 1981 he sold me a beach cottage (where we went to raise our family). He also held the mortgage- no background check, no papers...just a handshake. Will never forget. I owe him more than my start in Wilmington and I appreciate(d) his trust in us. A general and a gentleman. Tony Puente

The general was one of life's great people. We so valued his friendship and always admired his wisdom, wit, and charm. How privileged we were to have known him. Our deepest sympathies go to his family.

My deepest sympathies are conveyed to the family of LTG Jack Morris who was a role model as a soldier to me and many others and a very close friend of the late General Alexander Haig. I will never forget the good times both these fine Generals and true patriots shared together in DC, Idaho, China and elsewhere. I was honored to be in their presence on many occasions. May LTG Morris rest in peace and may it be said of him "well done"! Woody Goldberg, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and former Chief of Staff to General Haig.

Susan & John,
Your Dad was a friend and mentor for over 28 years. We will miss him terribly but will remember a life well lived. His love for Gerry and for you Susan and John was evident in every visit we had over those years.
Honoring his life is so appropriate and what a life it was. From a life as a lad in Eastern Md. to a graduate of West Point, winning the half mile relay championship of America, World War II in the Marianas, Meeting Gerry in war time, Service in Korea, Appointed As Deputy Commander at West Point, As a General in Viet Nam, Upon return as Director of Civil Works, in charge of building the waterway infrastructure of this nation's heartland, Attaining the three star top Engineering Post in this country, Face to face dealings with our President and many world leaders, Oversight activities with the Panama Canal, The Suez Canal, Saudi Arabian King Khalid Military Community, Execution of the National Dam Safety Act, Israel Negev Airfields, US China Three Gorges Dam Project Advisor, Writer, Teacher, Business Executive, Board Member, Entrepreneur, historian, Named Distinguished Graduate of West Point in 1998...He gave and he shared himself with individuals he met and with and for his country. He may use the Thayer Gate at West Point on the 4th. His class enhanced that gate and the words there state "When We Depart From Thee, Serving On Land Or Sea, May We Still Loyal Be, West Point To Thee"...It will be fitting when all who see him standup because John and Susan..."Your Father Is Passing"! God bless you and family...We will always remember him! We loved him too!

Jack was our wonderful neighbour ,and friend. He displayed honour, integrity, kindness and wit during our tenure here at PV. Harry and Jack spent many an afternoon sorting out history and all the good and bad that it infers. I miss them both.

Growing up on Lynnbrook Drive in Arlington VA and having Gen & Gerry Morris as neighbors and friends of my parents was the greatest blessing and role model that a young man could ever have. My formative years are vividly etched with memories of the sounds of singing & laughter & stories from the "singing Generals" aka Morris, Sawyer, and Mathe. God Bless them...I miss them all...and with deepest sympathy for your loss. Bill & Unie

I met General Morris shortly after I moved to Wilmington in 2007. I provided secretarial services to him, creating many letters, personal documents, etc. Along the way we became very good friends. He became a fan of Thai food after having it for dinner at my home one evening. Oatmeal Raisin cookies were one of his favorites. Mr. Morris, as I always called him, was a very special friend and I will miss him dearly.

I am retired from Plantation Village. I worked there for 10 years as Receptionist. It was truly an honor to work for such a distinguished individual. He was truly a fine gentleman. He was a special man and always said "Bonnie, what would I do without you typing for me"! Condolences to the family.

I held you in high esteem as a General but we had a friendship and you had me call you Jack. I knew you from rehab as your therapist and we made a good team. We were able to joke around and yet focus on your rehab. You were such a determined person and took your rehab seriously. I called you the "class clown" when you attended my balance class. You were such a caring, bright, and loving person and I will miss you dearly. God bless your family during this time.
