The only son of two children to Edward Baumann and Margaret Sturzel Baumann whom all emigrated and arrived at Ellis Island, NY on December 10, 1929 on the Steamship Stuttgart. The family settled in Brooklyn, NY on Hale Ave. In 1949 he married Marilyn Elizabeth Cullimore and they had the first of three sons, Craig Edward Baumann while living in Ft. Rucker, Alabama in 1953. Raymond Richard Baumann was born in 1957 in Panama Canal Zone, Panama and Scott Jay Baumann was born in Bremerhaven, West Germany in 1965. He is also survived by four grand children, Candace Berschauer, Tyler Baumann, Lauren Baumann and Lindsey Baumann and also two great grandchildren Hayden Berschauer and Harper Berschauer. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (1987) and his sister Louise Gross (2010). After High School graduation in 1943 and becoming a US citizen, Tex enlisted in the US Army and was sent to fight for the liberation of France. Being fluent in German he was tasked as an advance scout to go solo behind enemy lines to pick up intelligence. In one patrol he captured a German soldier and returned him to camp as a POW. After the war he was held over to assist in the occupation of Germany by the Allies. Upon his return to the US he entered and graduated from the City College of New York. He then entered the Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Elizabeth Cullimore, in 1949 and then sent to serve in the Korean conflict in the early 1950s. He was a platoon leader. Thereafter he taught (in Spanish) at the Jungle Warfare College in Panama from 1956 to1958. After several tours at Ft. Benning, Georgia he was sent in 1962 by President Kennedy to Vietnam as one of the first 400 US advisers to the government in South Vietnam. He learned Vietnamese, his fifth language, while there. He already spoke German, French, Spanish and English. In 1963/1964 he was at the Army War College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. From 1964 to 1968 he was stationed in West Germany; first, at the German War College (1964-1966) in Hamburg, West Germany, then from 1966 to 1968 he was at a NATO intelligence command in Mannheim, West Germany. While in Europe he attended and received his Masters degree from Boston University, in International Relations. He also lectured (in German) on behalf of the US government to local citizens of West Germany on the importance of US involvement in Vietnam. His final field command was as a Battalion Commander on the DMZ in Korea in 1968/1969. He retired honorably from the Army, he enlisted in as a private in 1943, as a Lt. Colonel in 1972. After his military career Tex continued with his love of travel. He blended his love of travel with his second career of selling Recreational Vehicles in Fairfax, Virginia until he fully retired in 1986. After years of travel he ended up in Florida for nearly 23 years. He then moved to The Fairfax in 2005 where he lived until his passing on November 21, 2015. Dad was a loving father that always tried and did right for his family. Dad's military career offered much for the family with more work on Mom when he was stationed away for a year or more at a time. However, he really believed in our Country and was a proud Patriot. Tougher in his younger days and much more mellow as he aged to the gentle old age of 90. We will miss you Dad.
