A great lost, my sympathy to M. shestack family. Nancy touched the live of so many desperate people fleeing persecution including myself. I became friend of the shestacks, they invited me to diner at Thanksgiving days for number of years.
In testimony of the good Nancy was doing for charity, my wife and I decided to name our daughter Nancy if ever we had one. The baby we were expecting for sometimes, came years after but was a baby boy, so we named him ALAN. Nancy's beloved husband
My son Alan is now 18 years old and live in France.
May her soul rest in peace, amen...

I am back in New Haven in 2022, and looked Nancy up. She was my favorite teacher at High School in the Community, around 1974! Hands down one of the most influential teachers I have ever had. For one, she was brilliant. throughout my education, which eventually included grad school at Yale and Columbia U, I've often remembered her for the ideas she taught and the skills and confidence she helped me acquire. She gave us courses in American Indian Studies, we read novel by Chinua Achibe and other fabulous writers, studied anthropology, and she taught a valuable class in latin and greek roots to expand our vocabularies. Whatever she taught was so interesting. She shared her life stories and cared about our lives. She was an advocate for me on several occasions, something I will never forget. She held high standards, and even though I didn't graduate from high school at the time, it was her comments on my papers and her encouragement that eventually got me to college, and thereafter to graduate school. I would like the family and her daughter especially to know I the gratitude I have for Nancy. There is more to tell, but this is long enough. remembering this wonderful person in my life, with love.

To the family of Nancy Jane Shestack:
I am sorry for your loss. The obituary article failed to include that she taught at Hillhouse High School in the late 1960's into at least June 1970, but I do not remember her as one of my teachers. May Nancy Jane's memory be for a blessing.

Mr. Shestack: feel proud of having a such a wonderful wife, like I am very proud to had her as my boss in Hogar Hispano, Falls Church, VA. She was the greatest fighter for justice and human rights in our office, she accomplished her mission to help people in need of any kind of help. (Fomer Hogarian)

Alan: So sorry. Good memories of Nancy. She was devoted to her immigrations clients and to improving the laws in that area. We enjoyed being with you both over the years and wish we had seen more of you in recent years. My best wishes for you. George Abrams

Dear Alan, I send you hugs and sympathy from the Wellesley Class of '62. This is a great loss for us. Nancy, in spite of her disabilities in later life, had such humor, courage, persistence in her good work, and accomplished so much to help so many. She will be part of us always. Love and blessings, Martha

Nancy Jane was a true gift as a colleague on the Board of the local ACLU affiliate here in DC. She was a passionate, wise, brilliant advocate for the marginalized in our society and the First Amendment. She will be greatly missed.

Nancy helped me through difficult times in my new country and neighbourhood. Gardening, cooking and listening. She was a happy, remarkable person. She deserves to be always remembered.
