Maj Gen Doctor was my Division Commander in 1985. I never heard of a more universally respected and beloved commander. If he happened to walk through your motor pool in the middle of the day, it wasn't to talk to anyone who just ran out of an air conditioned office. He was there to talk to soldiers. All by himself. No aide. His sedan would wait in sight, at a distance. He asked questions that couldn't be answered with a "yes" or "no". You had to think, or he'd rephrase. LOL It could go on for a minute but, he always had that trademark smile and no matter how nervous you were, by the time he left, you felt like the most important dude in the Army.
I'm ashamed to say that time has gotten away from me, and I only just found out that one of my heroes had left us a long time ago. I will never forget him.

I was Henry Doctor's personal driver while he was 1st Brigade Cmdr, 25th Infantry Div. Hawaii. I will remember him always as one of the most gracious people I have ever known. He always inspired people, including me. I am sorry I lost touch with him.

My name is Gregg Bingham and I met General Doctor while doing an NFL USO show in korea in 1985. Obviously he was an impressive man as I remembered his name all these years. It didnt take me long ( about a minute ) to see what a great leader he was and how important his mission was. Let there be no doubt his tutelage shaped the future for thousands of soldiers under his command.

I just learned about Gen Doctor. I ws a member of the 2d Infantry Div, when Gen Doctor was commander. He was a wonderful mentor, outstanding leader, enthusiastic encourager, a solid role model, compassionate, and a soldier's soldier. He was the best of the best. Our Army, our nation were made stronger thru his leadership.

To Janie, the immediate and extended Doctor family:
Because in many ways I too feel like family it is with sadness that I extend my condolences at the home going of my Brother in Arms, friend, mentor and loved one. Sad because I will miss his reassuring strength of character, direction and guiding values upon which he lived his life and challenged others to follow.
However, because I also had the distinct honor to know Hank as a Brother in Christ – I can celebrate with his family being assured where he is resting, in the loving arms of our savior Jesus Christ.
My prayers have always been and will remain with the Doctor family.
