William Hall Obituary

Hall, William J.

William J. (Bill) Hall, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born in New York, NY and attended NYU before he served in the 86th Division in the Army in France and Germany in World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1949 with a degree in Pulp and Paper from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He moved to Wausau with his first wife, Betty Gean Hutchison, and younger son, Dan. Bill met Marian (Williams) Seagren after both of them lost their spouses to cancer. They were married for 34 years.

Bill worked at Weyerhaeuser for 40 years, most recently as the Environmental Affairs Manager. He was recognized with the U.S. North Central District Environmental Stewardship Award. After Bill retired, he continued to stay active in the Wausau community. He volunteered for over 25 years for Habitat for Humanity, and served on various committees at the First Presbyterian Church, including starting Doorkeepers and Sunday Suppers. He was passionate about helping others, including assisting with Wausau In-House Network, United Way, and the North Central Area Congregations Organized to Make an Impact (NAOMI) on the Treatment Instead of Prisons (TIP) Committee. He also belonged to Golden Kiwanis.

Bill and Marian enjoyed many years traveling in their motor home, biking, cross country skiing, and golfing. They took several trips during retirement to various countries, including seeing Bill's relatives in Ireland. In addition to raising three children, Bill was a wonderful stepdad to Marian's two children.

Bill, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Marian; all of his children Mike (Nancy) Hall of Mill Creek, WA, Suzanne (Chuck) Shelton of Sammamish, WA, Dan (Deb) Hall of Marysville, WA, Karen (Rod) Rasmussen of Kenosha, WI, and Sharon (Ron) Seagren of Madison, WI; seven grandchildren Jill (Jeff) Ding, Kaylan (Eric) Dykema, Melinda (Ryan) Wieder, Patrick (Michelle) Shelton, Samantha Hall, Becky Rasmussen, and Ryan Rasmussen; and three great grandchildren Grace, Abby, and Isabella. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie, and first wife, Betty.

A memorial service in celebration of Bill's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Wausau on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or an organization of your choice. Condolences may be expressed at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau www.helke.com.
