Kenneth Leach Obituary

Kenneth R. Leach, 78, of 1415 S. Eighth, formerly of 1306 Spruce, died at 2:29 a.m. Wednesday (May 18, 2011) in the home.

He was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Quincy, a son of Kenneth E. and Kathlyn Gilliland Leach. He married Patricia A. "Pat" Shull on Feb. 5, 1955, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She died May 23, 2010.

Dick received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He first worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation and then for Klingner and Associates for more than 35 years. Dick was an SP 5 in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his children, Dick Leach and his wife Chele, Cindy Schmitt and husband Dave, Tom Leach and wife, Donna, and Edward Leach and wife, Amy, all of Quincy, Susan Hunt and husband Don of Frisco, Texas, and Sara Gribler and husband, Kirk, also of Quincy; 15 grandchildren, Cory Leach and his significant other, Kayla Rayborn, Beth Bozarth and husband, Matt, and Katie Leach and her significant other, Matt Maggart, all of Quincy, Breanna Johnson and husband, Josh, and Brandon Schmitt and wife, Kayla, all of Quincy, Erin Wilfong and husband Doug, of Alton, Nikki Slough and husband, Bryce, and Zach Leach, all of Quincy, Heather O'Hearn and husband, Steven, Nathen Leach and his fiance, Jennifer Laaker, and Dustin Leach, all of Quincy, Dalton and Davin Hunt, both of Frisco and Alaina and Riley Gribler, both of Quincy.

Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, Blake, Tyler and Ellie and Luke Bozarth, Benjamin and Elijah Johnson, Emma and Hunter Slough, Max Wilfong and Savanah O'Hearn; nieces, nephews and cousins; and two sisters, Marilyn Meyer and her husband, Jim, of Espanola, N.M., and Sharon E. Doyle of Quincy.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jeremy Schmitt.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Friday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Schluckebier. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post 37.

VISITATION: 11 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Muscular Dystrophy Association.

ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.
