Stanley Wear Obituary

Stanley E. "Stan" Wear, 63, of 1334 N. 12th, died Saturday (May 7, 2011) in his home.

He was born on June 19, 1947, in Quincy, a son of Clarence "Jim" and Alice Kriegshauser Wear.

Stan was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. He enjoyed reading and cooking.

Stan was a graduate of St. John Grade School and Christian Brothers High School. He received his bachelor degree in political science from Quincy College in 1974. He also received his surveying certificate from Quincy Technical Schools so that while attending college he worked full time for the City of Quincy in the engineering department. While in the engineering department he named a subdivision street after his daughter.

Stan worked for several years for his brother, Ronald Wear, at R&W Antiques. He traveled to the East Coast and was able to network with many antique dealers from across the nation. It was during this time that Stan discovered his passion for the antique business. He later left Quincy for the East Coast and lived in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and worked there for Social Services. Later he moved to South Florida and worked for Broward County Social Services in the Fort Lauderdale office. After this he was employed by the Avanti Nursing Home in Boca Raton, Fla., as their office manager. Stan then returned to Quincy and was able to open his own antique shop in Palmyra, Mo. He attended many local and out of state auctions.

Stan is survived by his mother, Alice Wear of Quincy; two children, Jennifer Benton and her husband, Rigoberto, of St. Paul, Minn., and James Wear of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kali Benton, Fabiana Vazquez and Alex Vazquez; and one brother, Ronald Wear and his wife, Wilma, of Taylor, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father.

SERVICES: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the East Lake Room of the Fairfield Inn in Quincy. Per his wishes, Mr. Wear donated his body to medical science.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Blessing Foundation for Hospice.

ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home.

A great guy. I worked with Stan at the City, he was always cool, compassionate, level-headed and a pleasure to work with. He will be dearly missed.
