Charlie Shepherd

Charles W. "Charlie" Shepherd, 71, of Quincy, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday (May 18, 2011) in Blessing Hospital.

Born Oct. 16, 1939, in Quincy, Charlie was a son of Charles Edward and Mary A. Schuckman Shepherd. He married Marion Goodwin on Aug. 3, 1960, in Dillon, S.C. She survives.

Charlie was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and the Machinist Lodge 822 and was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, Rocky Point Club and the Ursa AMVETS. He loved to "tinker and piddle" around his garage and enjoyed working in his yard. Mr. Shepherd served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962.

Charlie was employed for nearly 30 years at Knapheide Manufacturing and served as union representative for many years until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; a daughter, Sherri Mayfield and her husband, David, of Quincy; a son-in-law, Ronald Sparrow of Quincy; three grandchildren, Michael Jeremy Eldridge of Naperville, Travis Lee Eldridge and his wife, Rachel, and Joshua Kane Sparrow, both of Quincy; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Eldridge, Jacob Eldridge, Amelia Eldridge, Lyssa Caddell, Maggie Sparrow and Silas Sparrow; a sister, Carol Houseweart and her husband, David, of Quincy; four brothers, Gerald Shepherd and his wife, Jayna, of Lawrence, Kan., Roy Shepherd and his wife, Deanna, of LaGrange, Mo., Sherrill Shepherd (Sue) of Roodhouse and Edward Martin of San Diego; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shepherd was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Bobbi Jo Sparrow and a daughter in infancy, Mitzi Roxann Shepherd; and a sister, Linda Smith.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Monday in Madison Park Christian Church, conducted by Pastor Chuck Sackett. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.

VISITATION: 11 a.m. until time of services Monday in the church.

MEMORIALS: Charles Shepherd Memorial Fund.
