Rita Kemper Obituary

Mrs. Rita T. Kemper, 95 of the St. Vincent's Home, formerly of 93A West Granview, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday (May 5, 2011) in St. Vincent's Home.

Born Aug. 27, 1915, in Quincy, Rita was the daughter of Otto and Emma Kollmeyer Kriegshauser. While working in Kansas, Rita met her first husband, Paul Workman. They were married upon returning to Quincy on Jan. 8, 1946, in the Rectory of St. Mary's Church. He preceded her in death in 1955. She married Charles J. Kemper on Aug. 21, 1963, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1994.

Rita was a 1933 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduate of Quincy College. During the Depression, Rita taught in a country schoolhouse near Beverly and worked part time at the Busy Bee Clothing Store. In 1948, she became a licensed practical nurse. Rita was employed as a ticket agent for the Santa Fe Bus Company at Fifth and Hampshire and later transferred to Santa Fe Trailways in Fort Scott, Kan. Rita went back to work at the Busy Bee Clothing Store for many years until her retirement in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Workman (Ann) of Cherry Valley, Calif., and Ed Workman (Julie) of Quincy; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Workman of Quincy; a stepdaughter, Judy Stoermer (Philip) of Quincy; five grandchildren, Ericka Martin (Tony) of Virginia Beach, Va., Paula Prose (Caleb) of Watseka, Ga., Sarah Whitaker (Doug) of Warsaw, Ind., Stacy Workman and Tara Workman both of Austin, Texas; four stepgrandchildren, Joy Lynn Rawlings, Michael Stoermer, Andi Aschemann and Austin Aschemann all of Quincy; a sister, Alice Wear of Quincy; and many loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including Sister Kathleen VonderHaar and Father Ralph VonderHaar.

Mrs. Kemper was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son Robert Workman; a stepson Charles "Buddy" Kemper; a stepgrandson Philip Gregory Stoermer; and a brother-in-law Clarence Jim Wear.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Monsignor Michal Kuse conducting. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: St. Vincent's Home.

ARRANGEMENTS: Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
