Eugene J. Beckman

Eugene J. Beckman, 95, of Coralville, Iowa, and formerly of 1822 Oak, Quincy, died at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday (May 17, 2011) in Lantern Park Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Coralville.

Eugene was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Quincy, a son of John and Lily Wurtz Beckman. He married Rose "Darlene" Welsh on Aug. 31, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Eugene was a wood finisher and worked for Huck Manufacturing Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1976. He remained an active woodworker in his retirement.

He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge where he was secretary for 18 years, the American Legion Post 37, and was a member of the Painter's Union.

Survivors also include his children, Joan McMahill of Beaverton, Ore., Gary (Dee Warson) Beckman of Tiffin, Iowa, Linda (Ronald) Hinkamper of Quincy and John E. Beckman of Quincy; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by parents; a great-grandson, John Michael Cimera; four sisters; and a brother.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Titus officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Donald Knuffman.
