Irene White Obituary

PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Irene B. White, 92, of Pittsfield, died May 13, 2011, in Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Irene was born Nov. 10, 1918, near Mount Vernon, a daughter of William D. and Mildred Scott Byars. She married Malcolm "Jack" White on Nov. 19, 1938. He died in 1986.

Irene was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church, belonging to the Ruth Fellowship, served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women for several years and was a member of the Twin Rivers Art League.

Irene was a bookkeeper for many years before retiring to Pittsfield in 1980 to be near her family. She had lived in Mount Vernon, Salem and McLeansboro in Illinois as well as Detroit, Mich., and Canton, Ohio. She enjoyed watercolor and oil painting as a hobby in her retirement. She also was an enthusiastic bridge player.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Douglas Jack White (Carol) of Pittsfield; and a daughter, Iris Cotton of Chicago; two grandchildren, Alicia Prell (Douglas) of Chicago and Douglas A. White of Pittsfield; and two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Sarah Beth Prell of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1986; an infant son, Richard in 1939; two brothers, Bill and George Byars; and two sisters, Clara Green and Winona Drake.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield with the Rev. Tom Wilber conducting.

Following the service a lunch will be held at the Orr Hall, where the family will meet with friends.
