Opal Schlemmer Obituary

PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- Opal M. Schlemmer, 95, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday (May 18, 2011) in Eastside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pittsfield.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1915, in Mattoon, to Edward and Viola True Oliver. She married Walter V. Schlemmer on April 10, 1943, in Bowling Green, Mo. He died Dec. 3, 1994.

Opal was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. She worked as an inspector at the Brown Shoe Co. in Pittsfield. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and visiting with neighbors. She enjoyed her trips to Yellowstone Park and the Western states.

Opal is survived by her sister-in-law, Imogene Oliver of Pittsfield; a nephew, Dennis Oliver of Quincy; a niece, Julie Swartz of Raytown, Mo.; two great-nephews, Kory Oliver and Joshua Swartz; and a great-niece, Samantha Swartz.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Gale Oliver; and two sisters, Eleanor and Genevieve.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Bill Herald conducting. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Pittsfield.

VISITATION: 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Pittsfield West Cemetery or the United Methodist Church of Pittsfield.
