Mildred Cleaves Obituary

CAMP POINT, Ill.-- Mildred Grace Cleaves, 92, of Camp Point, formerly of Timewell, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday (June 2, 2011) in the Timberpoint Healthcare Center in Camp Point.

Mildred was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Pea Ridge Township in Brown County, a daughter of Edward and Grace Upchurch Yakle. She married Carl Jacob Cleaves July 8, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., and he died Feb. 24, 1993.

She attended Shank Grade School in Brown County and Timewell High School for three years and then graduated from Metamora High School in Metamora.

Mildred was a homemaker and loved working as a cook along with Virginia Shephard at the Timewell Grade School for many years.

Mildred was a member of Timewell Baptist Church and a charter member of Timewell American Legion Post 1059 Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, recipes, flowers, watching birds and getting her hair and nails fixed, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include three children, Kay (Phillip) Kellen of Centre, Ala., Connie (Delbert) Mowen of La Prairie and John (Sharon) Cleaves of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Peter (Ingrid) Kellen of Birmingham, Ala., Mark Kellen of North Hollywood, Calif., Heidi Simmons of Marshfield, Mass., Cheryl Kinman of La Prairie, Gary Mowen of Bella Vista, Ark., Peggy (Artie) McMullen of La Prairie, Greg (Vicky) Mowen of Clayton, Joseph (Jane) Cleaves of Quincy, Lacey (Jared) Rardon of Quincy and Shane Cleaves of Quincy; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Scott (Cindi) Leasman, Traci (Josh) Moore and Kelly Leasman, all of Clayton; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four stepgreat-great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Marshall) Elas of Mount Sterling; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Russell, Eldred and Robert Yakle; one sister, Christena Painter; and one step great-great grandson.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in the Hendricker Funeral Home, Mount Sterling, with the Rev. Dale Gadberry conducting. Burial will be in Mounds Cemetery, near Timewell.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. until time of services Monday in the funeral home
