Luella R. Dittmer

MENDON, Ill. -- Luella R. Dittmer, 90, of Mendon, died at 10:51 a.m. Thursday (June 2, 2011) in the Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Luella was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Kellerville to the late John Clifford and Zelia Stevens Padgett. She married Robert "Bob" Dittmer on June 25, 1949, in Dieterich.

Luella was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon. She graduated from Clayton High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy. In her younger years, she was active in 4-H, where she showed purebred Aberdeen Angus steers. She won many championships showing her steers at livestock shows in St. Louis and Chicago. She was also a member, in her younger years, of the Adams County Rural Youth.

In addition to her husband, Robert "Bob" Dittmer of Mendon, Luella is survived by four children, John Robert Dittmer of Macomb, Dennis Dittmer and his wife, Beverly, of Liberty, Michael George Dittmer of Decatur and Ruth Ann McGrew and her husband, Ken, of Good Hope; and four grandchildren, Melissa Dittmer of Mount Sterling, Jenna Dittmer of Richfield, Renee McGrew of Good Hope and Ryan McGrew of Good Hope.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Joseph Dittmer; one daughter, Janet Louise Vlach; one sister, Marion Hinman; and one brother, James Padgett.

SERVICES: 9 a.m. Monday Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, with the Rev. Lou Schlangen conducting. Interment will be in South Side Cemetery in Clayton.

VISITATION: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.
