Virginia Wittler Obituary

LORAINE, Ill. -- Virginia H. "Ginny" Wittler, 80, of Loraine, died Sunday (June 5, 2011) in the Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Ginny was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Larchmont, Pa., to the late Charles and Charlotte Ellis Honer. She married Melvin "Mugs" Wittler on June 9, 1951, in Broomall, Pa.

Ginny attended the Loraine United Methodist Church in Loraine. Ginny began working as a telephone operator in Philadelphia, Pa. She worked at Boekenhoff Bakery in Quincy, Strickler's Grocery Store in Mendon and was a waitress at The Rainbow Inn restaurant near Lima.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and AMVETS Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles, puzzle books and bringing meals to the farmers out in the field. She was an avid supporter of breast cancer awareness causes, and cherished every minute she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mugs, of Loraine, she is survived by five children, Donna Harrison and her husband, Paul, of Bowen, Linda Wittler of Quincy, Melvin Wittler Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Loraine, Bruce Wittler and his wife, Alycia, of Quincy and Terry Wittler and his wife, Helen, of Loraine; 14 grandchildren, Christopher Harrison and his wife, Debbie, Scott Harrison and his girlfriend, Beth Kessler, Doug Harrison and his girlfriend, Leanna Goodwin, Melvin "Lee" Wittler III and his girlfriend, Abby Geisler, Stevie Ensminger and her boyfriend, Chris Romer, Lacie Ensminger and her boyfriend, Robert Pittman, Barry Wittler and his wife, Ashley, Alex Wittler and his wife, Elizabeth, Jessica Wittler, Amanda Wittler and her fiancé, Tyler Molohon, Casey Long, Jennifer Dougherty and her husband, Steve, Thomas Long and his girlfriend, Tori Thomas, Nathan Hilgenbrinck and his wife, Erica; seven great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Charles Honer and his wife, Elise, Albert Honer and his wife, Harriet, Bill Honer and his wife, Joyce, and Dave Honer and his wife, Judy.

She was preceded in death by one son in infancy; two sisters, Dot Freischmidt and Charlotte Brown; one daughter-in-law, Marsha (Graff) Wittler; and one grandson, Gregg Don Harrison.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Loraine United Methodist Church in Loraine, with the Rev. Oliver Taube conducting. Interment will be in the New Loraine Cemetery in Loraine.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.

MEMORIALS: Loraine United Methodist Church or to the Loraine Fire House.
