Raymond F. Finley

1956 - 2016

Raymond F. Finley, 60, of Quincy, died at 8:46 a.m. Oct. 11, 2016, at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1956, in Quincy, Raymond was a son of Wilma Finley, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Finley served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Corp. Finley was part of the Marine Security Detachment during the evacuation of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon in 1975. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal; was a rifle expert; and boxed in the middleweight division for the Marines boxing team.

Ray was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching all sports. He was a diehard Cubs fan and loved all Chicago sports teams, Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks.

Ray was employed as a vending machine technician for Heck Novelty in Quincy for the last 16 years.

Survivors include several cousins, including Penny Phillips of Decatur, Ala., and Dusty Hoffman of Quincy, and his many friends in the Quincy area.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with the Rev. Shane Tomko conducting. Military honors will be conducted by the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the U.S. Marine Corps Funeral Honor Detail.

Friends are asked to enter Sunset Cemetery from U.S. 24 to Medal of Honor Drive and to honor Ray's love of Chicago sports by wearing any Cubs, Bears, Bulls or Blackhawks attire to the graveside service. After the service, friends are invited to the Cedar Club at 20th and Cedar for a time of fellowship.
