Helen Maddox Obituary

PALMYRA, Mo. -- Helen L. Maddox, 84, of Palmyra died at 4:55 p.m. Friday (April 29, 2011) in Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Palmyra.

She was born July 10, 1926 in Quincy, Ill., to Ferdinand and Florine Metzger Krogman. Helen married Claude E. "Paddle" Maddox on July 4, 1956, in Palmyra. He died Dec. 23, 2009.

After graduation, Helen worked at Gardner Denver in Quincy, and then went to Washington, D.C. and worked for the Military Intelligence Division. When she returned to Quincy, she worked for Physicians and Surgeons Clinic. In 1951 she traveled to San Francisco for two years. She later returned to Quincy and worked at Illinois State Bank until 1956. In later years, she worked for B & H Appliance in Palmyra. She was a 1944 graduate of Quincy High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandy (Dennis) Vogelpohl of Valparaiso, Ind.; son, Randy Maddox of Palmyra; sisters, Dorothy (Raymond) Doellman and Frances Musolino; and a brother, Allan (Krethy) Krogman, all of Quincy; grandchildren, Kristin Roux of Portage, Mich., Eric Vogelpohl of Valparaiso, Lacey Maddox of Palmyra, Jason Vogelpohl of West Lafayette, Ind. and Melissa Maddox of Palmyra; and great-granddaughters, Madeleine and Emmaline Roux of Portage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Krogman; and grandson, Ryan Vogelpohl.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Palmyra, with the Rev. Christopher Smith conducting. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Palmyra.

Casket Bearers will be Eric Vogelpohl, Jason Vogelpohl, Oliver Roux, Paul Shepherd, Drew Maddox, David Maddox, Mark Krogman and Monte Krogman.

VISITATION: From 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: St. Joseph Catholic Church or Michael J. Fox Foundation.

ARRANGEMENTS: Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra.
