Wendell Rigg

CLAYTON, Ill. -- Wendell Otis Rigg, 73, of Clayton, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) in Blessing Hospital, Quincy.

He was born Nov. 28, 1940, in Kellerville, a son of Otis David and Violet Marie Clapp Rigg. He married Shelby Sue Davis on June 24, 1963, in Palmyra, Mo., and she survives.

Mr. Rigg worked for Electric Wheel in Quincy for 17 years and later worked for Midwest Pattern in Quincy until his retirement in 1999.

He attended Adams and Brown County schools.

Mr. Rigg was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Clayton.

Wendell was known as the handyman of the family who was able to fix anything. He always enjoyed hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Sue Rigg of Clayton; five children, James Wendell Rigg and his wife, Denise, Kevin Rigg and his wife, Kathie, Jerrilyn Mason and her husband, Doug, Richard Rigg and his wife, Janet, and Jana Rigg and her fiancé, Greg Waterkotte, all of Clayton; five brothers, John Rigg of Camp Point, David Rigg of Arkansas, Jim Rigg of Greenfield, Lester Rigg of Michigan and Chester Rigg of Arizona; and three sisters, Ellen Ashbaker of Golden, Mary Henninger of LaPrairie and Willa Courrier of Jacksonville. Twenty-six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wendell Darren Rigg; a grandson, James Klodt; two brothers, Melvin and Albert Rigg; and two sisters, Alice Henninger and Edith Jobe.

SERVICES: 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling. Burial will be in Mounds Cemetery near Timewell.

VISITATION: One hour prior to services Tuesday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Northside Baptist Church in Clayton.
