Cora B. "Corkie" Schrage

Cora B. "Corkie" Schrage, 81, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1028 N. 20th St., died at 9 p.m. Thursday (April 21, 2011).

Corkie was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Kingston, a daughter of Walter and Cecil Mason Flick. She married George E. Schrage Jr. on June 3, 1950, in Quincy. He died Nov. 30, 1986.

She was a graduate of Quincy High School. In her early years, Corkie was a telephone operator for the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. She then worked in the communications department at St. Mary Hospital from 1969 until her retirement. At that time, she was the director of volunteers for the hospital.

Corkie was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the Adams County Democrat Women.

She is survived by two sons, George Schrage III and his wife, Connie, and Steve Schrage and his wife, Joyce, all of Quincy; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Schrage, of Quincy; six grandchildren, George Schrage IV of Quincy, Stephanie Hodgson and her husband, Rob, of Liberty, Mike Schrage and his wife, Erin, Tim Schrage, Ryne Schrage and Mitchell Schrage, all of Quincy; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Gabriel Schrage, both of Quincy; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Orscheln and her husband, Elmer, of Moberly, Mo., and Carolyn Schrage of Schaumburg. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Corkie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick Schrage; and a brother-in-law, Jack Schrage.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church conducted by the Rev. James Wheeler. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

MEMORIALS: St. Francis Catholic Church or the Good Samaritan Home.
