Douglas Runkle Obituary

QUINCY -- Douglas Steele Runkle, 63, of Quincy, died at 11:18 a.m. Monday (July 20, 2015) at his home.

Doug was born March 31, 1952, in Rushville, the son of Donald Steele and Almeda Rittenhouse Runkle.

Doug graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science from the University of Illinois in Champaign. In 1976, he completed his Master of Science in Animal Science at the University of Illinois in Urbana.

Following graduation, Doug worked as an animal nutritionist for a number of companies, including Nutrition Service Associates in Belleville, Sunglo Feed Inc. in Kansas and Moorman Manufacturing in Quincy. He had also been a consulting nutritionist in Queensland, Australia. In addition, Doug had managed five farms in the Quincy area and had operated his own business, Steele Oaks LLC, in Kansas. Most recently, Doug was a manager in the electrical department at Menards.

Survivors include his parents, Donald and Almeda Runkle, of Quincy; his sister, Teresa (Kent) Adams, of Quincy; two nieces, Erin (Ben Harvey) Adams of San Diego; and Jill (Vincent Valente) Adams of Oakland, Calif.; a great-nephew, Lorenzo Steele Adams-Valente; a great-niece, Devin Amara Adams Harvey; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Doug was preceded in death by an aunt, Roberta Rittenhouse, and two uncles, Randall and Dexter Rittenhouse.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Friday, July 31, at the Good Samaritan Home Chapel, 2130 Harrison in Quincy, with Chaplain James Riley conducting. Inurnment will be private.

VISITATION: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

MEMORIALS: Donor's choice.

ARRANGEMENTS: Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
