Elizabeth Lukather Obituary

In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Burt Lukather June 3, 1914 - March 15, 2006 Passed away Wednesday, March 15 in Whittier, California. She was born June 3, 1914 to Jane Veale Burt and John Burt of Narberth, Pennsylvania. As an accomplished horsewoman, poet, and therapist by profession, she dedicated her life to helping others realize their potential. Challenged with paralysis at the age of two when the polio epidemic of 1916 struck her hometown , she has dedicated her life to inspiring others to overcome obstacles. Her career began as a medical technologist at Thomas Jefferson Medical Center in Philadelphia. In 1950 she took up residence in California building a private practice as a nationally-known physcho-therapist. She married actor Paul David Lukather in 1957 and adopted singer Suzanne Lukather in 1960. In collaboration with Golden West Stables of Ontario, California, she and her husband founded the Brass Ring in 1973, an organization devoted to rehabilitation of all forms of handicap through horsebackriding. The U.S. Senate and California State Legislature conferred on her the status of Woman of Achievement in Sports in 1987. In 1992 she was voted San Gabriel Valley Woman Athlete of the Year. In 2005, a book of 107 sonnets she wrote over her lifetime, Songs of the Sonnet, was published by Xlibris Press. Funeral services will be held March 30th at 1 p.m. at the Skyrose Chapel at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, where she will be laid to re st. Please make donations to the SPCA-LA in lieu of flowers. She is survived by her husband, Paul David Lukather and daughter, Suzanne Alexis Lukather.
