Morton Myerson

Morton Myerson, a retired real-estate developer, lawyer and liberal activist in Brookline politics, died of complications of Alzheimer's disease on June 25, four days after his 94th birthday. Mr. Myerson was a Navy veteran of World War II who saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, including service as a beach master during the Normandy invasion. Born in Dorchester, a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Waldstein) Myerson, his family moved to Brookline when he was a young boy. A 1937 graduate of Brookline High School, he graduated from Harvard College in 1942 and from Harvard Law school in 1948. In December 1942 he received his commission as a second lieutenant in the Navy--and married his long-time sweetheart, the former Eleanor Applebaum. Mr. Myerson practiced in the Boston area, first in antitrust law and later in real estate development. Active in Brookline town politics, he served on the town Personnel Board and later took an active role in his wife, Eleanor's, successful campaigns for selectman and later for State Representative. An agressive competitor in raquet sports and golf, he was a lifetime member of the Harvard Club of Boston, serving on the Squash Committee. He was also a long-time member and former president of the Cataumet Club. Mr. Myerson also belonged to the Pocasset Golf Club. Besides his wife of 71 years, Mr. Myerson is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Myerson and Lynne Johnson of Bolton, and a daughter, Ann Myerson, of Brookline. Burial will be private, with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
