Rita Burns

Rita (Tager) Burns, a longtime resident of Belmont, MA died in the early morning of August 8, 2013 at The Devon Senior Living in Devon, PA. She was 85. Born January 17, 1928 in Cambridge, MA, to Teresa Barbara Tager and George Joseph Tager. She had one sister, Barbara. A mother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and grandmother, Rita elevated the mood with her straightforward sensibility, kindness, strong will, and her clever, humorous manner. Rita shared a special bond with many of the women in her life, in particular her sister and her cousins. Her father George was a Chief Petty Officer, who served in the U.S. Navy for 33 years. Rita was born and raised in Cambridge, MA. She attended Cambridge High and Latin High School and Manter Hall Prep School. She was married to Paul E. P. Burns, whom she was grateful to for instilling her with a deep appreciation of the arts. They raised four sons, Jere, Chip, Peter, and Christopher. Rita worked for 19 years as a fund raiser for Harvard Law School and also volunteered at McLean Hospital. Rita is survived by her sister, her 4 sons and 7 grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. A Memorial Mass will be held on Sept 14, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Church, 29 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA, followed by a reception in The Student Center.
