Sheldon Wool Obituary

Sheldon M. Wool of Concord, passed away peacefully in Concord on July 6, 2015 with his devoted and loving wife Jacqueline at his bedside. He was 87 years old. He suffered from Alz heimers disease in the last few years of his life, but his kind, gentle spirit and sly sense of humor continued to thrive. Sheldon was born on May 18, 1928, in Newark, NJ, the youngest son of Abraham Wool and Edith Jacobs. He was a graduate of Weequahic High School in Newark and Rutgers University, and later, earned degrees from Yale Law School and the London School of Economics. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force. Sheldon enjoyed a successful career in New York City as chief financial officer of the CBS Records Group and vice president of corporate development at ABC. He moved to Boston in 1983 to assume the position of vice president and chief financial officer at Mast Industries. He eventually retired from Mast, but continued to work as a business entrepreneur, starting both Custom Coal Technologies and the Boston Carbon Corporation. Sheldon married Jacqueline Hill in 1984 and they lived for nearly 30 years in Concord, a community they both loved and in which they were well known and treasured as wonderful friends, neighbors, and active members of the community. To all who knew him, Sheldon was unfailingly kind, generous, warm and gentle. He had a keen intellect and curiosity about the world, and was almost always immersed in a large book, or reading the New Yorker, the New York Times or the Economist. He especially loved works about Winston Churchill and the world wars, among many other subjects. Friends and acquaintances often came to Sheldon for his advice and wisdom on business and other matters. He had a strong passion for travel, opera and Asian art, and he and Jacqueline traveled extensively all over the world. They especially loved Asia, and China in particular, where they both developed a passion for Asian antiques. He was a long time member of the Asian Art Society of New England and the Audubon Society. He was an avid bridge player, and he loved birdwatching. Sheldon was also a wonderful photographer, and he had a darkroom built in his house in Concord. He loved preparing meticulous slide shows of his and Jacquelines travels and showing them to friends and family, along with his signature commentary. Many of their travels together were devoted to birdwatching. Sheldon was always the consummate host of social gatherings, and he enjoyed having friends and family over for annual holiday parties, as well as countless smaller gatherings and bridge dinners. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Wool, his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Lars Breimer, his stepson Christopher Hill and his wife Susan Flicop, his stepdaughter Natalie Hill, his grandchildren, Sophie, Althea, and Lucy Hill, his nephews, Christopher and Jon Wool, and Barbara Mirecki, the wife of his brother, the late Ira Wool. A private service will be held in Concord. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. (www.alz.org)

Sheldon was a highly valued member of the Asian Art Society of New England. He and Jacqueline have always been delightful company, and their hospitality has been much appreciated. We will really miss Sheldon!

Sheldon was the wedding ring uncle for my children Damien, Chloé and Ninon, the nephews of his wife Jacqueline and the cousins of Christopher and Nathalie Hill.
Here, in France, we are all very sad by his death and shell remember an affectionate, lovely and bright man.
