Marjorie Deluse

1931 - 2017

Marjorie Melong Deluse, 86, of Hanover died peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2017 after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Francis J. and Anna Dunn Melong, she was born in Quincy, January 3, 1931. She grew up in Quincy and was educated in the Quincy Public Schools. She was a graduate of Simmons College, and received her master's degree in Nursing from Yale University. She served as a public health nurse for the Army in Anchorage, Alaska and taught nursing students at Quincy Hospital before deciding to devote her time to raising her family. She moved to Hanover in 1959, and became incredibly involved in the community, serving as a trustee of the John Curtis Free Library, and a member of the Hanover Woman's Club, Juniors. She was also a local business owner, handling the finances of the Hanover Bowladrome for over 20 years. She was fascinated by genealogy and spent a great deal of time researching her family roots, even writing two books that detailed her own life, as well as the history of her family. She was a voracious reader and had an affinity for nonfiction, as well as mystery novels. She also loved to host her family for holidays and entertain her friends. She and several friends created a "Gourmet" group that would meet for monthly themed dinners. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, A. Donald Deluse; her son, Mark F. Deluse and his wife Marsha, of Farmington, CT; her daughters, Andrea L. Sweeney and her husband Walter, of Hanover, and Laura D. Arends and her husband Michael, of Dedham; and six granddaughters; Meaghan and Katherine Sweeney, Michelle and Alexandra Deluse, and Lillian and Martha Arends. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53 in Hanover on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Rte 139 in Hanover.
