Christopher Strone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 13 to Apr. 20, 2011.
Christopher Scott Strone Christopher S. Strone, May 12, 1970 - March 4, 2011. Christopher attended Hingham Public Schools starting in 1st grade and graduated magna cum laude from Hingham HS in 1998. Christopher was a member of the HHS orchestra & the jazz band, the Hingham Symphony Orchestra, SEMSBA, and performed in local plays. He was the recipient of the Mclean Performance Scholarship (4 years). He originally played the violin but then became a master of the upright bass. He was a member of the tennis team and raced 420s with the Lincoln Sailing Club. He attended the Hartt School of Music at the Univ. of Hartford graduating cum laude in 1992 with a double major in acoustical engineering and jazz studies. After college he lived in New Orleans, NYC, and Phoenix. From Bourbon Street to Carnegie Hall; downtown NY clubs to Crystal Cruise line, he played his bass. Christopher composed and recorded with various artists under different labels; he also was a well known sound engineer, at times using the name of Christo. But he also found time to make his way home to Hingham for visits and family vacations. Christopher is survived by his parents Kenneth and Jane Strone of Hingham, MA; Gregory Strone, brother of NYC; Carolynn Strone, aunt and godmother, of Island Park, NY and Ft. Lauderdale, and Bobby Van, uncle, of Ft. Lauderdale. According to Christophers wishes, he was cremated in a private ceremony with only his immediate family in attendance. Although an exact date has not been chosen, a memorial service will take place sometime this summer when his ashes will be taken out to sea from Hingham harbor. Music was Christophers life and music gave him his greatest joy. Therefore, Christopher wished that his prize possessions, his instruments, be awarded to exceptional students who not only live to make music but have a financial need. The Christopher Strone Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at South Shore Conservatory to provide financial assistance for students in the Jazz/Rock Department. Donations may be sent to the South Shore Conservatory, 1 Conservatory Drive, Hingham MA 02043. The Christopher Strone Scholarship Fund has been established at Hingham Institute for Savings to provide financial assistance for a graduating senior who has achieved excellence in music and intends to pursue studies at the college level. Donations may be sent to the Hingham Institute for Savings, 55 Main St., Higham, MA 02043.

I continue to feel the love of music shared with Chris as I recorded singing with him several times, attending his jam sessions when available. When someone reads this, if they have access to any of his recordings of Susan´L Taft please share & keep his memory alive. He was one of the most exceptional musicians I ever sang with. Respectfully,
Sussn L Taft

I'm so sad to hear that Chris passed several years ago. I was thinking of him today, searched online, and found his obituary. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Chris was a beautiful soul, a magnificent musician and one of my great loves. We met on the cruise ship and connected briefly in Phoenix. He positively impacted and changed my life, and helped me through a difficult time when my Mom had breast cancer. I'm a fellow bass player and was in awe of his talent. I'm so grateful for the time we spent together. I cried all day today when I learned he had passed. The world lost a beautiful man. His soul lives on in his family, in his loved ones, and in me. So sorry I am 9 years late. I hope that this message brings your heart joy in the knowing that Christopher loved and was loved deeply.

Chris introduced me to music (the mandolin) as a very patient teacher. In Phoenix, we had lessons at our home, followed by a nice dinner where Chris talked about his family as well as gigs including Crystal Cruise lines, local Phoenix bands, & even Bo Didley. We laughed and shared stories for hours. We will miss Chris and we are very sorry for his loss. To those who shared in his love of music and friends, his melodies and rhythms will be in our hearts forever.
