Jerome Troy Obituary

Jerome Patrick Troy, of Marshfield, formerly of Rockland and South Boston passed away on Aug. 25, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lynn, and his daughter, Siobhan Troy Boudreau. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew, Lilly and Emma Boudreau. Brother-in-law of Winifred Sweeney Troy. Uncle of Mary Tate, Robert and Paul F. Troy and Kent and Ellen Proctor. Brother of the late Robert F., John, Arron Troy and Joanne Proctor. A native of Rockland, Jerry graduated from Rockland High School, Boston College and Georgetown University Law School but interrupted his law school education to enlist in the Navy in World War II. He shipped to Tunisia and subsequently commanded an LST in the European Theatre as a Lieutenant. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Jerry returned to Washington D.C. and graduated from Georgetown Law School. While at Georgetown, Jerry worked at the office of Congressman John W. McCormack but later joined the Capitol Police Force so he could prepare at night for law school classes. He passed the District of Columbia Bar and the Massachusetts Bar shortly thereafter. During his professional career, Jerry practiced law on Beacon Street in Boston with the firm of Harrigan Caulfield and Murray. He lived on Columbia Road in South Boston for many years. Jerry was active in city and state politics and governmental affairs and co-founded the New Boston Committee and the Young Democrats. In 1958 he was appointed First Deputy Secretary of State by Joseph D. Ward. He later managed Wards campaign for Governor in 1960, in addition he campaigned for John Collins for mayor. Jerry also served as Counsel to the Department of Public Health and as a District Court Judge. He was a past State Commander of the 1st district of Massachusetts DAV, and later served as Judge advocate. Jerry was an avid reader and loved language and enjoyed frequent trips to Ireland. Jerry moved to Marshfield in 1969 and resided there for over 40 years. Funeral was held from the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139, Marshfield, Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate, MA. at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours were held Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Scituate.
