Darlene Benbow Obituary

BENBOW WINSTON-SALEM - Darlene Lynell Benbow was born December 17, 1957 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Tommie and Helen Benbow. She was the fourth of six of children to that union. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. She was educated in the local public school system and graduated from South Park High School, Class of 1975. Darlene was a member of True Victory Ministries of Winston Salem, North Carolina where the pastor is Bishop Daniel Coleman.. She was an avid lover of flowers and ornamental plants. This was evident throughout her home and landscaping designs. Another pleasure and hobby was watching western movies; this, she shared with her father. Her love for music was eclectic but Darlene had a special affinity for country music and Christmas songs. Her favorite gospel song was "Open Up My Heart" by Yolanda Adams. Darlene knew no strangers and had a heart full of compassion, concern, kindness and love. Her smile was ever present, providing warmth to those she knew. She reached out to her Hispanic neighbors, teaching English and, in turn, learned Spanish. Darlene was employed throughout the city of Winston Salem in the hospitality sector by various hotel chains. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Tommie Lee Benbow. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Mark Benbow and Reginald Benbow of the home, her mother, Mrs. Helen Jackson Benbow of the city; sisters, DeVera Benbow Lowery of Greensboro, NC and Debra Benbow of the city; brothers, Darryl Benbow, Dean (Gloria) Benbow of the city and Derrick (Janet) Benbow of Charlotte, NC; a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and devoted neighbors, the Nava Family. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 5000 Noble Street Winston-Salem, NC. Family visitation will be held from 12:30-1 p.m.
