Betty was born June 4, 1925, in Jonancy, KY. She was reared in and around Pikeville, KY. She entered nursing school in Knoxville, TN, in 1942 where she met her husband, the late Dr. W. Otis Duck. They were married on March 11, 1944, and settled in Mars Hill, N.C., following World War II. She was a loving and caring nurse alongside her husband, Otis, for nearly 50 years. She was also a member of the Shamrock Garden Club and the Brookridge Bellringers, and she was an extraordinary bridge player. She treasured her friends at Brookridge, especially her wonderful Poole Court neighbors. She is survived by her daughter Rosalind Duck Gentry of Myrtle Beach, SC, and her son Dr. Sigsbee W. Duck (Cindy) of Rock Springs, WY. She loved her five grandchildren dearly - Courtney Chostner and her fiancee Ryan Whitley of Charlotte, NC; Keith Chostner of Charleston, SC; Marguerite Duck and her fiancee Timothy Chon of Cincinnati, OH; Riley Duck of Louisville, KY; and Zachary Duck of Denver, CO. She also has many loving nephews and nieces and their spouses and children. I took my boys to the Dr. Duck's office in Mars Hill during their childhood. She wonderfully served alongside her husband for many years in Madison County. I will never forget Mrs Duck; and I appreciate all her family has contributed to Mars Hill.

A dear friend and neighbor--with a ready smile and gentle wit. We were among the many guests at her house last Sat. night, and noted with satisfaction her delight in being a superb hostess.
