Mitchell Gough Obituary

GOUGH UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS - Mitchell A. Gough, Captain of the Federation Starship the USS Fearless NCC-12372, warped into space on his last mission on June 21, 2010. Captain Gough was born on December 3, 1972 in Winston-Salem, NC, planet Earth, to Danny and Jo Ann Gough. His death-defying childhood included walking on iced-over ponds and all sorts of adventures with his faithful Federation crew of Mr. Vuh Vuh, Honey Bun, "Odie", "Garfield" and "Pepper". Mitch grew up in North Carolina but found his home in 4th grade on a school field trip to New York City. He became "Imperial Caesar of Astoria", Queens after graduating from SUNY Stony Brook with a BS in Social Work in 1998. Aside from being a famous published writer, Mitch spent his career helping the hopeless and the helpless and especially loved and protected the children in his care. He recently resided in Brooklyn, New York with the best terrace in New York City. In addition to his dear friend, "Meow Kitty", Mitch was preceded in death by his grandfather, Irvin Disher. Mitch is survived by his parents, Mommooo and Daddooo (Danny and Jo Ann Gough) of Huntsville, NC; his brother, Mr. Vuh Vuh (Jeff Gough) and sister-in-law, Tater Salad (Teresa Stewart) of Tyro, NC; and his sister, Honey Bun (Dana Gough Myers) and brother-in-law, Landru (Matthew Myers) of Huntsville, NC and by his precious niece, Raine Myers, who knows where the Statue of Liberty is thanks to Mitchie. He is also survived by his grandmother, Nanum (Mozelle Disher) and his aunt, Janeum (Jane Disher) of Yadkinville. He is also survived by "Boo" the Dog of Huntsville and "Louie" the Turtle of Brooklyn, NY. Mitch loved making pamcakes with Nanum and all things Star Trek. His laughter touched all who were blessed to call him friend or brother. The world is a darker place without Mitch's light. His friends and family will celebrate his life and legacy with a traditional potluck dinner and celebration on Saturday, June 26 at Union UMC on Shallowford Rd. in Lewisville at 6 p.m. The family would like to thank Mitch's roommates, Bill Ames and Michael Danielsen, his personal physician Dr. Jed Burack of Brooklyn, NY, and all Mitch's friends and extended New York family for their kind care and support. Condolences may be made by watching an episode of Star Trek and sending kind thoughts and prayers to the family. "Live Long and Prosper, King Fish".

As someone who has had to write more family obituaries than she would have liked, I have to say this is very beautiful and touching.

I didn't know Mitchell, just his dad -- a unique and good soul in his own right. So I am deeply sorry for Danny and his family. I wish you all the comfort God can give.

I meet Mitch my senior year in high school(FHS 1990). Mitch was incredibly personable and fast to make friends. I don't recall him ever meeting a stranger. He was a wonderful addition to our little group of misfits. He loved life and it's experiences. His spirit and personality were far too large to ever be extinguished. That joy will continue on. My sincere sympathy to his family. I know all of you were very special to him.

I grew up with Mitch and his brother Jeff, their sister Dana is a little more younger but I remember growing up with her as well. Every Saturday night we would do something as kids, whether it be Bowman Gray Stadium attending races or just hanging out playing around. We attended the Joyner family reunions together and also went vacationing at Maggie Valley every summer. In recent years since Mitch had been living in NYC, I have not had opportunity to keep up with him except in email and Facebook. But, Mitch and our friend Tony from school would always get together when he was back here visiting home. Mitch had a very interesting life and his celebration at the memorial service reflected that as well. He would have been pleased! Long live and prosper, Mitch!! See you some day in the better place as this current life and world is NOTHIN in Comparison!!! You are with those who have passed on before you and, put in a good word for us still down here!!! God Bless, R.I.P!!! We will Always remember Mitchell A. Luna [Gough] FOREVER!!!

I am glad I had the pleasure of meeting Mitch. From the short stay with him in NY to the few times in the Caroilinas, I had a blast with this guy. Very sweet and welcoming guy. You will be missed. To his family and friends, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Lou has you always called yourself when you worked for the family business Chandler Smith Oil Co at a teenager until adulthood. You will be greatly missed. Your phone calls from time to time and your emails were a joy to receive and hear from you so far away in NY. I am happy that you found a place that you loved as much as you loved NY. I know Danny and Jo will miss you greatly but Dana is close by to help them through it. I just hate that Raine will not get to see you anymore and get that joking personality from you. You are always pulling jokes on people. We all loved you and will miss you greatly. Especially your grandma Frances who you called Fran. Grandpa James should be with you now along with Grandma Fleta. Take care of them both and let them enjoy your laughter as we did here. I hope that you are happy there and no more suffering. We are proud of the man that you became in your journeys here on earth. We hope to see you again one day. Love your Aunt Janet and Uncle Hal.

Mitch was one of a kind. My cousin and true friend who gave me the opportunity to live in NYC for many years. When he was passionate about something, he would devote himself to it entirely. He was generous to a fault. Mitch had no secrets and was a great listener. Boy did he ever listen to me! Danny, Jo Ann, Dana, Jeff, Mozelle, and Jane, I know you will find comfort in this difficult time. This obituary is exactly as Mitch would have wanted it.

Mitch (Lou Folds)... the first grandchild of Frances Vaughn Gough and the late James Calvin Gough, nephew of Hal & Janet Gough Seats & Lynn Gough, great nephew of Tony & Frances Joyner Gough and Bobby & Helen Gough Hill, and numerous cousins. As a child Mitch spent many years with his Grandmother, Frances V. Gough and became a young businessman at the family business, Chandler & Smith Burner & Fuel Service. Mitch was an adult at a young age. He loved answering the phone, helping customers, dispatching calls, etc. He was very special to us all and especially to his grandmother "Fran" as he called her. We all loved him and will miss him. May he rest in peace.
