Alft, Joan Marie

Mrs. Joan Marie Alft, 72, of Kissimmee, FL, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 after a two-year battle with Cancer. Joan was born in Marshfield, WI on January 2, 1940 at St. Joseph's Hospital to Richard (Tubby) and Helen (Schmutzer) Brandl.

Joan attended The Stepping Stone School in Milladore, WI, St. Philip's School in Rudolph, WI and graduated from Rudolph High School in Rudolph, WI. Joan married Dale D. Alft on September 30, 1974. She worked at Preway and Opportunity Development Center (ODC) in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Joan and Dale moved to Kissimmee, FL in 1979. At the age of 20, a car accident left her paralyzed. Even though Joan spent her remaining years in a wheelchair, she continued to keep a positive attitude and was an inspiration to many.

Joan is survived by her husband Dale D. Alft of St. Cloud, FL; four brothers, Tom (Donna) Brandl of Rudolph, WI, Ted (Sandy) Brandl of Stevens Point, WI, Fred (Janice) Brandl of Lynn, MA, and Peter (Connie) Brandl of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; three sisters, Sue Mancl of Milladore, WI, Sally (Jerry) Linzmeier of Milladore, WI and Ann (Charles Rettig) Crandall of Effingham, IL; three step children, Karrell Britz, Melanie Alft and Cameron Alft; step grandchildren Chad Britz, Scott Alft, Carson York, Danielle Britz and Megan Alft; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judy Seefeldt, niece Dawn Mancl and brother in-law Dale Mancl.

A private memorial service will be at a later date.
