Betty W. Ashford Betty "Ma Betty" Wright Ashford, 81, of Wytheville, the Piney community, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. Funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 6, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ted Anders and Norman Wilhoit officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. She was born July 30, 1929, in Wythe County, daughter of the late Clarence and Myrtle Spraker Wright. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Akers; and a son, Henry Akers. Survivors include her husband, Frank Ashford of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kaye Akers of Max Meadows; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mickey and Jeff Callahan of Galax, and Donna Akers of Wytheville; a daughter-in-law, Frankie Akers of Max Meadows; four grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Debbie Akers of Alabama, Audra and Clay Shekleton of Richmond, Jason and Samantha Akers of Wytheville, Sissy and Doug Tuck of Wytheville; two great-grandchildren, Madison Jean Shekleton and Taylor Cowan; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine and Thomas Dalton of Wytheville, Kaythrine McRoberts of Max Meadows, Aggie Reynolds and Janice Horton, both of Wytheville; special friend, Mary Billings; one stepson; three stepdaughters; seven stepgradchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
