Carlton Donald Carlton, 79, of Rogersville died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Queenie Mae Duty Carlton, and brothers George Carlton, Harold Carlton and Bill Carlton. Survivors include his wife, Benita Elliott Carlton; daughter, Mellisa Grice, and son, Charles J. Carlton, both of Marion; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Bennett and husband, Willard, of Bristol, Pauline Price of Virginia and Ida Rachel "Susie" Merrix of Woodbridge; brothers, Harry Carlton of Texas, James Carlton of Massachusetts, Roger Carlton of Waynesboro and C. "Dean" Carlton of Roanoke; stepdaughters, Shirley May and Linda Thompson and husband, Tracy; stepsons, Charles Spears, Michael Spears and wife, Eileen, Roy Spears, and Joseph Spears and wife, Cheryl, all of Rogersville, and Richard Spears and wife, Susan, of Fredricksburg; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the funeral-home chapel with Brother Steve Davis and the Rev. Bert Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Harrison Cemetery with military honors provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard Funeral Honors Program.
