Harold L. Absher Harold Lewis Absher, 84, of Wytheville died Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Brad Simpson officiating. Interment will be in West End Cemetery, Wytheville. He was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Ashe County, N.C. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired banker, merchant and farmer. He was an elder and longtime member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church and a 25-year member of Gideon International. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Absher Martin. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Dixon Absher of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Hal and Becky Absher of Wytheville; and grandchildren, Alissa Anderson of Wytheville, Tara Anderson Blount and Daniel of Christiansburg. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 17, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. (service time) at the church's Hatcher Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Wytheville Presbyterian Church or Gideon's International, c/o of Wytheville Presbyterian Church. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
