Herbert A. Stowers Herbert Amos Stowers, 91, of Bastian died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rodney Lawson officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, W.Va. He was born June 30, 1919, in Bluefield, W.Va., son of the late Mason and Hattie Stowers. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served six years in Germany and France. He retired from Betsy Ross Bakery and was a member of Rocky Gap United Methodist Church where he was a member of the "39ers." He was also a member of Teamsters Union Local 175. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Kinser Stowers; two sisters, Hazel Allen and Kathleen Hopkins; and two brothers, Albert Stowers and Glen Stowers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Janet Stowers of Bland, and Gary and Deana Stowers of Bastian; two grandchildren, Blake Stowers and Stephanie Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby Quick and employees of the K&W Cafeteria, and his coffee buddies at the Bastian Exxon and BP Station. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church Building Fund. Highland Bland Funeral Chapel in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.
