Ronald Barker Obituary

Barker Ronald H. Barker, 81, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army; a life member of VFW Post # 4667; served with the Army Reserves; retired from Brunswick Defense Plant and was a member of East End Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Tuell Barker; parents, John and Dessie Barker; three brothers, John, Bill and Jack Barker; and sister, Cathy Greear. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela and Charles Conner and Rhonda K. Barker, all of Marion; two grandsons, Benjamin and Jonathan Conner; one sister, Pat Schwarz of Stuart, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 10, at 11 a. m. at East End Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Parker and the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, where military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post # 4667. The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion. Flowers will be appreciated or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be may be made to Project Crossroads, 136 Snider Branch Road, Marion, VA 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Barker family at www.seaverbrown.com. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

We are saddened to hear of Uncle Ronald's passing. I looked up to Ronald's wit and wisdom growing up in town. I am happy that he can be with Lucy again.
