Sherman Wesley Haga

Haga Sherman Wesley Haga, 76, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at Specialty Select Hospital in Bristol, Tenn. He was born in Smyth County to the late John Alexander Haga Sr. and Gracie Ann Holloway Haga and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Haga, five sisters and a brother, Lizzie Cassell, Lessie Gullion Brock, Martha Haga, John A. Haga Jr., Dorothy Stoots Musser and Beatrice Blevins. He was a member of Wytheville First Church of God and was a devout Christian and a fine, outstanding gentleman of the community. He worked at General Shale in Atkins for 44 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves. He was an avid hunter and woodworker. He was a loving husband and father. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Fishel-Haga; one brother, Robert E. "Gene" Haga and wife, Eva, of Flint, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Dr. Jennifer Fishel of Greenville, N.C.; two special nieces, MaryAnn Blevins and Emma Sexton; close hunting buddies, Lawrence Cregger, David King, Walt Atwell and Joel Hampton; brother-in-law, Joe Cheeks and wife, Vicky; sister-in-law, Darlene Wolfe; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Wytheville First Church of God, 1135 Cove Road, Wytheville, with the Rev. Don Sunshine officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat with military honors rendered by Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667. The family received friends on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
