Elwood Rohrbaugh Obituary

Rohrbaugh YORK Elwood L. "Red" Rohrbaugh, 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ruth N. (Stough) Rohrbaugh. Together they shared over 65 years of marriage. Red was born in Jackson Township, on October 11, 1925, and was the son of the late Norman Rohrbaugh and the late Annie (Heiner) Rohrbaugh. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. He worked for York-Shipley and retired after 38 years of employment. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Wolf's Evangelical Covenant Church in York, a member of the Spring Grove VFW Post #5265, and a charter member of Pine Hill Trail Riders. He enjoyed hunting, watching the Orioles and the Ravens, and NASCAR, but cherished the time he spent with his family. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his daughters, Nancy L. Kauffman and husband, Park of Atglen, and Debra J. Packard and husband, David of East Berlin; his son, Donald E. Rohrbaugh and wife, Joyce of Seven Valleys; his grandchildren, Bradley, Brian, and Jody Kauffman, and Breanne and Joshua Packard; and his great-grandchildren, Peyton and Anna Kauffman. He is also survived by his brothers, Phillip and Charles Rohrbaugh; his sisters, Annamae Almoney and Rainie Weidner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Rohrbaugh, Spurgeon Stambaugh, and baby Norman Rohrbaugh; his sister, Geraldine Davis; and his baby sister, Hazel Rohrbaugh. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Wolf's E.C.C., 4501 Wolfs Church Road, York, with the Rev. Matthew Stillman officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at St. Paul Wolf's Church Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Family services are under the direction of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC of Spring Grove. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Paul Wolfs E.C.C., 4501 Wolf's Church Road, York, PA 17408; or the American Diabetes Assoc., 3544 N. Regret the passing of Elwood. I worked with "Red" at York Shipley back in the mid-19 sixties. He always had a positive attitude and taught me a lot about welding and how to get along with others. Here is good bye to a great man. I'm sure he will be missed by family and friends.

"Red" was a wonderful man, full of humor with sparkling eyes. He always had a smile on his face. I will fondly remember many days spent with Deb, Donna, Linda, and Nancy at Grandpa Stough's farm on our bikes.
