Cletus Arnold Obituary

YORK Cletus L. Arnold, 76, died Monday, February 28, 2011, at his residence. He was the husband of Donna L. (Kauffman) Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold observed their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 5, 2010. Clete was born in York, on February 27, 1935, a son of the late George and Helen (Parr) Arnold. He was a retired firefighter for the York City Fire Department. Mr. Arnold was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army. His memberships include St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North York and the Retired Fireman's Association. In addition to his wife, Clete is survived by a son, Steven L. Arnold and his wife, Denise of York; a grandson, Logan A. Arnold; three sisters, Gloria Ayers, Elnora Brillhart, and Betty Jones, all of York; and a brother, Kenneth Arnold. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nettie Sauers and Mildred Sprigle; and two brothers, Donald Arnold and Fred Arnold. A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 700 N. George St., York. Friends and family are to gather at the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance of the cemetery by 1:15 p.m. His pastor, the Rev. Beth A. Schlegel, STS will officiate. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York, PA 17404; or York Professional Firefighters Local 627, P.O. Box 5, York, PA 17405. When I got hired in the Fire Dept in 1982 I quickly learned that Clete was one of the most respected Firefighters. He always was willing to lend a helping hand. Getting to know Clete made me a better person. He will truly be missed.
