You are so missed. Not only by family and friends, but by the racing world. You called me your niece even though we weren't related any longer and that made me so proud. When I moved back to Pa. I wanted to find you and had no idea where you were. Only to find out I drove past your house at least twice a week. You will always be my Uncle and I will always love and miss you.

Smoke my hero my friend
Thank you Smoke for being my hero since I was 12 years old, but most importantly, thank you for being my friend and filling that father figure in my live after my dad passed away. I have so many wonderful memories of all the years spent at the race tracks, and all the fun times we had with Krautie and Tony on all our road trips to the tour races. I would not have made it through the last few years without all the love and support you had given me. You truely were a blessing to have in my life, how I will miss all the advise you have given me and just to hear your voice calling to check in on me, to see if I was ok or needed an ear to vent to. You will never know how many lives you have touched in one way or another. I know that you are in a better place and that you and Krautie are together again, and that some day 2 of my favorite friends will be there to greet me when I arrive at that same special place. Until then Pappy your memory will always live on in my heart.

I met Smokey 15 years ago. My son raced go-karts at the time and that night I went home and asked him if he ever heard of Smokey. Well my sons eyes lit up and he told me he was his favorite racer! When Smokey came in the next time to pick up his eyeglasses I told him what my son said. Within an hour he was back with an autographed picture for my son. I was always so happy to see you were coming to the office so we could talk about racing. Always asked me about my son. I will miss our conversations and that great smile !

I had many memories of Smoke racing. He was my hero from the time I was 5 years old. He always had a smile and time to chat with me. I stopped going to the races when He stopped racing full time. It wouldnt have been the same for me. I had the greatest pleasure watching him race. God bless his family. He will be greatly missed.

May God Bless you and your family in this difficult time. I got to know Smokey through the years and he always could make me laugh. I grew up watching him at Silver Springs and you will be truly missed Smokey!
October 13, 2011
I have many fond memories of watching Smokey race. Although, my most memorable moment was as a very young girl. My parents took me to the pits of my cousin's race team after every race at Williams Grove. One night, Smokey was there & he picked me up & gave me a huge hug. I was beaming from ear to ear... the Silver Fox was giving me a hug! Smokey... you will truly be missed by the entire racing community! Keep Maynard company up there! My thoughts & prayers go out to the family & friends of Mr. Snellbaker.

We got to know Smokey during our push truck days at Silver Springs, and also in the pits at Susky when we ran our own sprint car. Always a great guy, and never condescending to us rookies, operating on a shoe-string budget. I think my favorite memory of him is from the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds, during a meet for the Williams Grove Oldtimers. Smokey "volunteered" to man the dunk tank, and first up was my missus. His comment after her first throw was "look at the wing on that chicken"...Ha! Then our 7 year old son took a chance. Since he was so young, Smokey invited him behind the line for a better shot at him. Well, the kid didn't manage to hit the target with his throw, but he did have the presence of mind to run up and smack the target before he left! I still remember the look on Smokey's face just before he hit the water...!
Our most sincere condolences to Smokey's family and friends...he will certainly be missed, but NEVER forgotten.

I knew Smoke from Sue and Keith. I never saw him race, but I did get the chance to race with him in an indoor race track many years ago. It was a fun time. Smoke always had lots of crazy stories, along with a great smile and laugh. He also had a very spiritual side. I also had the privilege of dancing with Smoke on a few occasions. I imagine that he was as smooth on the dance floor as he was on the track. He was a great dancer even in his later years. I am proud to have gotten the opportunity to know him. He was a pretty special guy and will surely be missed. My heart goes out to Sue, Keith and family.

Smokey was a great racecar driver and a great person. I'll never forget the time he won the feature at Silver Springs Speedway. My best friend was recovering from a bad car accident and was determined to walk down to the fence to see Smokey in victory lane. When Smokey saw her, his eyes lit up and he came to the fence and told her she was going to be the first person in victory lane with him. Will always cherish these special moments. RIP Smokey

My deepest sympathy to the Snellbaker family. May the memories that you have and that people share comfort you and your family. My greatest memory of Smokey was back in 2004, my Father-N-Law was diagnosed with Lung cancer and was given 3-6 months, I was a friend of Donnie Kraut and asked if he could arrange for Smokey to meet my Father-n-Law at Silver Springs,my Father-n-Law was like a 82 year old kid at Christmas, we had him for another 2 weeks, but in those 2 weeks everyday he smiled and talked about meeting his legend, a person he watched for many years at Port Royal, and Selinsgrove. I talked with Smokey many times after and thanked him for giving that 82 year kid the thrill of a lifetime, and to know surprise in true humble Smokey fashion he said, I am glad that I could bring a smile to his face. You will be missed, a legend in the car, and hero in many hearts.

My deepest sympathy to Sue and the rest of the Snellbaker family. I first met Smokey when I was 8 years old in the 70's. I quickly became a big race fan and especially a big fan of Smokey. Within a few years, Smokey began to take me along to the races with him (and Sue). I would help him strap in, hand him his helmet and gloves, and cheer every inch of every lap. The memories of standing with him in victory lane can never be replaced. I am so thankful to have known him and I will never forget the kindness that he extended to me. Smokey, thank you and God bless you.

Back in 1993, I started to go to Silver Spring Speedway. I watched this guy they called "The Silver Fox". I became a fan instantly. In 2001, I was fortunate enough to be invited to work on the crew of the 32 car. Not only was I getting to meet my favorite driver, but I was there in the pits with him, handing him his helmet each Saturday night! Smokey - you were a great man and a wonderful friend. You will truly be missed!!

My sympathy to the entire Snellbaker family. I met Smokey only once on a June afternoon in 2003 at was was the AMF Factory Race Team Reunion in York Springs, Pa. Smokey and his fellow AMF race team partners had gathered to share memories and talk about the race snowmobiles they had raced back in the early 70's. On that day, Smokey personally rode my 1971 XX1650 AMF factory race sled through the park with exhaust pipes screaming. Afterward, he graced the sled's hood with his signature along with those of his friends from the race team. He talked with me that day, shared his personal experiences and shared a small piece of his race history memorabilia with me. He also invited me to go with him to Williams Grove speedway and see the races that evening.
Listening to his spirited stories and special input on racing was truly unique and fun to hear.
I'm happy to have crossed his path even if for just one afternoon.
I recall his white hair, neat appearance, and solid build. He had that racing atmosphere about him and shared information happily with those of us willing to listen and learn.
A great man, a kind man, and his input and stories were awesome.
Smokey? It's time to fly free. God bless you on your way home.

I have so many memories of Smokey. I am going to miss him pulling in on his scooter or cycle and spinning the stones in my driveway. His calling card was blowing the horn or revving the motor to get my families attention. We then knew he was there. He always had a way to make me laugh. He wanted to make people happy and he did that with everyone he touched. I grew up idolizing him and was blessed to get to know him as a friend, after we went to Knoxville for his induction into the Hall Of Fame. He gave me some of the best moments of my life. He watched my son wrestle and came to his school last year for his "Hero project". My son was so proud to have him there in class with him. Smoke left me carry his helmet bag at the races, hand his helmet and gloves to him when he would get strapped in the race car. He allowed me to live a childhood dream. Smokey Snellbaker let me become a friend to him and I will treasure his comradery, advice, and thoughts on life for the rest of my life. I always told him that I never in my wildest dreams, thought that someday I would be driving to the races with him and walking through the pits with King of The Dirt Track, Smokey Snellbaker. With Love to Smokey and his family.
God Bless Smokey, Sue, Keith, Gretchen, and Eddie

My thoughts and prayers are with the Snellbaker family. I got to see Smokey for the last time 2 years ago. I was working personal security for Tony Stewart at Williams Grove Speedway and my job was to keep everyone away from him, especially during the driver's meeting. Smokey walked up to talk to Tony but I told him to back up. When he didn't I grabbed his shirt. He apologized and stepped back. When I looked over at Tony, he was giggling and shaking his head. He said, "Do you have any idea who you just grabbed"? "That was Smokey Snellbaker"! I felt bad, because I had watched him as a kid but didn't recognize him. I found him later and apologized. We had a good laugh about it and a great conversation afterwards. I'm glad to have that memory of him and will miss seeing him there. He was a great man.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I've known Smokey since the early 1970's when my late brother-inlaw Richard (Dick)Gettys started taking me to the races. Williams Grove every friday night for years with Dick and his daughter Wanda. Smokey always had time to talk to his fans. Great memories from the races and after races talking to him. Great man on the track and off. R.I.P. Smokey you will be missed by all.

When you became my Uncle many years ago, you remained my uncle. I haven't seen you in years, but never stopped loving you. I was your number one race fan for many years. I will never forget Port Royal when you were given the bear cub.Love you always, Uncle Smoke. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear of the passing. Smokey was a good guy and wasn't afraid to talk when he saw you. Enjoyed watching him race and will always be a fan. The local racing world lost a true racing legend and he will be missed. Thanks for the memories Smokey. God bless the Snellbaker family.
