Marshall Burkins Obituary

DELTA Marshall D. Burkins, Sr., 81, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011, at Manor Care South in York. He was the husband of Elsie (Jones) Burkins, and recently they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Born on April 26, 1930, in Peach Bottom Twp., York Co., he was the youngest child of the late Delmar and Elsie (Wright) Burkins. Mr. Burkins had been a truck driver for many years, retiring in 1992 from Davis Concrete. Driving for the former Stateso, he had worked in the quarry industry of the local area. He had lifetime memberships with Delta-Cardiff V.F.C. and the North Harford Fish & Game. Mr. Burkins enjoyed hunting with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marshall Burkins, Jr., and his wife, Lisa and James Burkins and his wife, Sandra, both of Delta; a daughter, Jean Grafton and her husband, Charles of Windsor; and two grandsons, Steve Burkins of Delta and William Grafton and his wife, Lauren of York. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Flahart and Dorothy Fields; and a brother, Arthur Burkins. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta. Pastor Judy L. Walker of Delta U.M.C. will officiate. Interment will be in Slate Ridge Cemetery, Delta. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Delta U.M.C., P.O. Box 445, Delta, PA 17314.
