Charles Quickel Obituary

RED LION Charles Coburn Quickel died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Country Meadows at Leader Heights. He was born on December 4, 1930, the son of William and Effie Quickel. He received his high school diploma from Red Lion Area High School and his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State. His major was Industrial Engineering. Coburn worked for Borg Warner as a Chief Engineer for more than 15 years and then the York Hospital for over 25 years. He held the position of Director of Engineering. One of his major accomplishments was the design and implementation of a cogeneration system, which won him the Engineer of the Year award in 1974 for the entire United States. He was later promoted to Assistant to the President / Facility Development, coordinating an enormous expansion of the York Hospital. Coburn was involved with several community services in Red Lion. He was a volunteer fireman for more than 20 years, designed and coordinated the construction of the new Red Lion Fire Department building, member of the Red Lion Municipal Committee, School Board member, and a board member for the Red Lion Water Authority. Coburn attended Bethany United Methodist Church for over 60 years and was President of the Board of Trustees for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye; son, Greg and wife, Berry; and son, Gerry and wife, Deb. Visitation will take place on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with his pastors, The Rev. C. Leroy Doverspike and Rev. Ronald Doverspike officiating. The cemetery service will be private for the family. I would like to send my sincerest condolences to Mr. Quickels family and friends. The last time I saw Mr. Quickel I told him I loved him. He looked over at me and said I love you, too. I will always remember that.
