Charley Reynolds Obituary

FREDERICK, MD Charley William Reynolds, formerly of York and Hyattsville, Md., surrounded by his loving family, passed into eternity Sunday evening, June 7, 2015 in Frederick. Mr. Reynolds was born January 30, 1917 to the late James Allen Reynolds and Sallie Fannie Wells and grew up on Pittsylvania County, Va. Charley was raised in the Callands area during the Depression and, at 17, moved to Washington, D.C. in search of work. Soon after that, at the start of WWII, he signed up with the Army and volunteered as a paratrooper. He and his bride, Virginia Tate Reynolds and soon their young son, Billy, lived in Georgia. In the later years of WWII, Charley was sent out to Europe where he continued training paratroopers and occasionally made jumps into the enemy territory. After the war, Charley and Virginia set up housekeeping in the Washington, D.C. area and soon there were three children. Then they moved to a larger house in Hyattsville. He and Virginia raised their five children and ran a floor finishing business in the Washington area until his retirement in 1989. At retirement the couple moved to York where they enjoyed 26 years of morning breakfasts at the Village Green and an active retirement. Charley is survived by his dear wife of 73 years, Virginia Tate; their five children, Bill (Katherine) Reynolds of Bloomfield, N.J., Richard (Linda) Reynolds of College Park, Md., Linda Reynolds of Hong Kong, China, Robert (Jackie) Reynolds of Frederick, and Roger (Diane) Reynolds of Barnesville, Ohio; as well as 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at The Semmel Chapel of Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York, with The Rev. Jim Ward, officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with flag folding rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

So sorry to hear of the passing of yet another great Reynolds man.Needless to say I never had the pleasure of meeting this one,but I might have.I loved Sallie Fannie and Jim.She made my veil when I married in 1973. My daddy was Kermit Reynolds and mama was Ruby Mahan Reynolds. I was born in '52 and barley remember Uncle Charley Wells but do kinda remember going down to their house. Mama and Daddy loved them and spoke of them a lot. Remember seeing Uncle Charley at Sallie Fannie"s .Loved going to Jim's store!!!! I'm thinking I saw where Stover passed recently also. They all seemed to live good long lives. My Grandma was Emma Reynolds if any of you remember her and John. My sister is Marjorie and brother was Kermit Wayne, some of you might remember them. would love to hear from some of you.FB Sue Reynolds Bowling

Dear Virginia , Linda and family . So sorry to hear of Charley's death , He was a happy fellow and always laughing. Did not know he was a paratrooper. What an interesting life he must have had. Bet he told a lot of stories of his Army career of fun things happening. Will be praying for you and your family Virginia, as you go through this . I'm sure you had many happy years with Charley. We have known Linda Reynolds, the Missionary, for many years now, and look forward always to her wonderful emails. We have followed the news, both from Hong Kong and York, then Frederick, concerning the health of her mom and dad. We send our sincere sympathy to the whole family on the passing of her dad, and pray that they will be aware of the loving presence of the Lord. He will never leave them comfortless.
