GETTYSBURG Josephine Haugen Senft, 90, died on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Gettysburg Hospital, surrounded by family. Jo was born on October 6, 1924, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Emma and Andreas Haugen. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., and spent a lifetime teaching, beginning as an exchange teacher in Rimbach, Germany, immediately after WWII. Following that, she served with the Lutheran World Federation in the Service to Refugees Program. Jo is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth C. Senft; daughters, Elizabeth C. Senft (Mark Steinhoff) and Catharine Senft Geib (Richard); sister, Jean Haugen Hiott; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. Jo was a member of Tree of Life Lutheran Church, Harrisburg. Private services will be arranged by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jo's name to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, 700 Light St., Baltimore, MD, 21230 or at lirs.org. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc.

Jo had been on my mind a lot the past week or so. On behalf of the Rimbach-Ole "family" sincere condolences. So glad Kirsten and I and my brother Dan had the privilege of meeting, lunching and strolling with you and Jo several years ago. Jim A. called me last evening. My heart goes out to you.
